Learn more about the animals at our checkpoints

The park route includes so-called experience checkpoints. At the checkpoints visitors have the opportunity to use many of their senses to learn more about the animals.

The checkpoints consist of tasks: at the long jump site you can measure the length of your jump and compare it to the jump lengths of various species. The long jump measurement scale indicates how long certain animals would jump. Near the Golden Eagles' pen there is model of a White-tailed Sea Eagle, equipped with a measurement scale for you to measure your "wingspan". Next to the model there is a list you can use to find a bird with the same wingspan as yours. There is also a height board you can use to compare your height to the heights of various species.

The models for brown bears and polar bears are in real-life scale, so you can safely wonder about the size of the white and brown giants. The size may be a difficult feature to comprehend in the park, as the visitor is often quite far from the target. The animals of the park were real life models for artist Riitta Ahonen, as she painted the illustrative images and task boards of the Ranua Wildlife Park animals. Especially, the image of the standing "great white", that is, the Manasse polar bear.
